WIT: Women of Woodworking Showcase

About this event

Come connect with fellow woodworking women! The Seattle Woodturners' Women in Turning (WIT) group invites you to join them in celebrating women woodworkers past, present and future! This free community event will feature a talk from Craig Edelbrock on the legacy of the late Joyce Anderson, a groundbreaking designer/furniture maker/woodturner and one of the first women in America to become a full-time professional woodworker. Additionally, we will have demonstrations by three local artists working in wood:

Elizabeth Weber will bring us into fall with a demonstration on turning acorn boxes.

Diana Friend will take us through the process of turning her ever so delicate florets.

Kim Mcintyre will round out the day with a demonstration on bent wood laminations, including a spokeshave sharpening demo and hands-on stations for participants to try out the process themselves!

***Due to unforeseen circumstances, Mary Vu Tripoli's demonstration on pole-lathed lidded boxes will be rescheduled for a future date***

*While WIT events are intended to increase the number of women in woodturning, they are open to all members of the Seattle Woodturners club and the public alike! Consider joining in and bringing along a woman in your life :) If you are outside our demographic focus, please prioritize women participants until one week prior to the event or contact the WIT Liaison directly for accommodation when space is available.
